Americans Blank Giants And Take 3-0 Series Lead
The Tri-City Americans scored 3 power play goals en route to a 4-0 victory over the Vancouver Giants in game 3 of the Western Conference Quarter-Final Tuesday night at the Pacific Coliseum. With the win, the Americans take a commanding 3-0 series lead.
Neither team was able to generate much offense in the first period. Both teams were unable to convert on their one power play chance and as a result it was scoreless through 20 minutes of play. Tri-City outshot Vancouver 9-6.
The tight play continued in the second period. Vancouver could not take advantage of their power plays going 0-for 2. However, the Americans would have success as Adam Hughesman opened the scoring with just over 2 minutes left in the period on the man advantage to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes of play.
Playing 4-on-4 early in the third period James Henry was denied by Drew Owsley at one end and moments later at the other end Connor Rankin would beat Mark Segal to put the visitors in front 2-0. From there the frustration would build for the Giants resulting in undiscipline penalites. Tri-City scored two more power play goals, one 5-on-3 and one 5-4 to round out the scoring. Owsley made 22 saves for the shutout. Special teams were the difference as the Americans finished 3-for-6 on the power play, while the Giants went 0-for-4. With the victory Tri-City takes a 3-0 series lead.
Game 4 is set for tomorrow night at the Pacific Coliseum. Puck drop is 7:00pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30pm on AM 650.
