Five Cougars Headed to NHL Camps
PRINCE GEORGE BC – The Prince George Cougars are excited to announce that five players are headed to NHL Camps this month: Riley Heidt (Minnesota), Koehn Ziemmer (Los Angeles), Ty Young (Vancouver), Ethan Samson (Philadelphia), and Tyler Brennan (New Jersey).
The Minnesota Wild will get their second in person look at Heidt, who was their second-round selection at the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville. The Saskatoon, SK product suited up with Minnesota for their Summer Development this past July. During the 2022-23 campaign, the 18-year-old forward owned 97 points over 68 games. Heidt also represented Team Canada at the U18 IIHF World Championships back in April in Switzerland.

Mayerthorpe, AB native Koehn Ziemmer will also get his second look with the LA Kings after attending their Summer Development Camp. Ziemmer, 18, was selected by the Kings in the third-round in Nashville at the 2023 NHL Draft. Ziemmer is coming off a magnificent 2022-23 campaign, scoring 41 times and collecting 89 points in 68 games.

Goaltender Ty Young is headed back to Vancouver for his second camp. After reporting in Vancouver, the Coaldale, AB product will then head to Penticton for the Canucks annual Young Stars Classic Tournament that goes from September 15-18. Young, turns 18 today, was selected 144th overall in the 5th round by the Canucks in the 2022 NHL Draft. Young finished the 2022-23 season with a 15-13-4 record and was a catalyst in their first round series win over the Tri-City Americans in 2023.

2022-23 captain Ethan Samson is headed back to Philadelphia for his third main camp since being drafted by the Flyers in the sixth-round in 2021. The 6’3 blue liner was a force on the Cougars back end, averaging a point per game (18-42-60 in 60 GP). It is expected Samson will stick in the pros, whether it be the American Hockey League or National Hockey League. Samson, however, is eligible to return to PG if he were to be sent back.

Goaltender Tyler Brennan is headed to his second camp with the New Jersey Devils organization. The Winnipeg, MB product is coming off his best season as a Cougar, posting a 21-10-3 record, along with 2.86 goals against average. Brennan, turns 20 on September 27th, was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 4th round, 102nd overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. Brennan, like Samson, is a 2003 born and is eligible to return to Prince George if he were to be sent back.

Prince George’s pre-season continues this weekend when they take on the Edmonton Oil Kings in Grand Cache, AB on Friday, September 15th and 17th.
