He scored 70 points, including 30 goals and 40 assists, on the HC Plzen U17 team in 2024-25 and 43 points in 40 games for the HC Plzen U20 team in 2025-26. He also played for Team Czechia at the 2025 Hlinka-Gretzkly Cup and tallied three goals and three assists in seven games at the 2026 U18 Men&#8217;s World Championships. Tom\u00e1nek was taken 36<sup>th<\/sup> overall. \u00a0Born on September 20, 2008, he will be eligible for the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTom\u00e1nek is an exciting forward who was a point-per-game producer in the Czech U20 league and filled a big role with the U18 national team all year,\u201d said Spokane Chiefs European Scout Janik Beichler. \u201cHe\u2019s a dual threat winger who plays with relentless energy every shift. A quick skater who can both set up his teammates and bury the puck himself with a quick release. With his high energy and compete level, he can play up and down the lineup and contribute in all situations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schwarz, a 5\u201911\u201d center, has played for the Lukko U16, U18, and U20 clubs in Finland the past three seasons. Last year he recorded 47 points with 19 goals and 28 assists in 38 games. He represented his home country of Germany at the 2025 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup. Spokane used the 97<sup>th<\/sup> overall selection in the 2026 CHL Import Draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchwarz is a dynamic, highly skilled forward whose explosive skating, high-end puck-handling ability, and confidence with the puck make him a constant threat,\u201d Beichler said. \u201cHis creativity, deception, and ability to generate scoring chances off the rush gives him exciting upside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchwarz will start the season in Finland playing with his club team, but we are hoping to add him at some point during the upcoming season,\u201d Beichler finished.<\/p>\n<p>Schwarz, a 2009 birth year, will also be eligible for the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n<p>Brabenec, a 6\u20194\u201d center born in 2007, spent the 2025-26 season playing for HC Kometa BRNO U20 team in the Czechia U20 league, tallying 47 points, including 13 goals, and 34 assists in 44 games. Brabenec was the 158<sup>th<\/sup> overall selection in the 2026 CHL Import Draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrabenec brings an intriguing blend of size and hockey sense. He has some physical runway to develop into a strong presence in our league, but he also has good playmaking vision and is smart around the net,\u201d said Beichler. \u201cComing in as a 19-year-old who put up a point per game in the Czech U20 league last season, he should be able to step right in and contribute.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<\/p>\n<p><em>The Spokane Chiefs are a member of the U.S. Division of the Western Hockey League, the world\u2019s finest development league for junior hockey players. The CHL Import Draft is an annual event in which every team in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) select players from outside North America. The draft will begin at 8 a.m. PST with each team in the CHL allowed up to three import players on their rosters.<\/p>\n<p>Spokane\u2019s final roster last year featured one overage import, Czechia\u2019s Dominik Petr, and a pair of 2006 born imports, goaltender Linus Vieillard and forward Assanali Sarkenov. Grabner is a member of the Chiefs List of Legends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(F) Ondrej Roman \u2013 Czechia \u2013 5<sup>th<\/sup> overall \u2013 2006<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Selected fifth overall and played 142 games in Spokane, winning a Memorial Cup in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(F) Dominik Uher \u2013 Czechia\u2013 47<sup>th<\/sup> overall \u2013 2009<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chiefs first round pick in 2009 played over 170 games for the Chiefs over three seasons and also represented Czechia at the 2012 World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(F) Dominik Zwerger \u2013 Austria \u2013 106<sup>th<\/sup> overall \u2013 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spokane\u2019s 2013 second round pick was named WHL Rookie of the Year in 2013 and recorded 33 goals in his first two seasons as a Chief.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(D) Filip Kral \u2013 Czechia \u2013 78<sup>th<\/sup> overall \u2013 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spokane\u2019s second round pick in 2017 recorded 120 points in 154 games over three seasons as a Chief.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under updated rules for the 2026 CHL Import Draft, 16-year-old import players are only allowed to be drafted during the first round, whereas 20-year-old players will be eligible to be selected in any of the three rounds. Additionally, CHL teams are only allowed to draft one 16-year-old import player and cannot be traded or replaced by another 16-year-old import player. If a 16-year-old import player is released to another level of hockey during the season, that club is now limited to two import players for the rest of the season. Clubs with three import players under the age of 20 will be ineligible in the draft.<\/p>\n<p>As the CHL Import Draft includes the three leagues under its umbrella (Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League) the picks will rotate through each of them based on their league\u2019s final standings. Oshawa from the OHL will select first, followed by QMJHL\u2019s Baie-Cameau Drakkar. In his 29 games as a Chief, he scored 12 times and assisted on 16 others.<\/p>\n<p>Sparks becomes the second highest selected Idaho-born player in NHL Draft history after former Chief Bobby House was selected 66th overall in 1991. Sparks is the fourth player born in Idaho ever to be drafted, after former Chief Bear Hughes (148th overall in 2020 by WSH), Merrick Madsen (162nd overall in 2013 by PHI), and Kevin Kantee (188th overall in 2002 by CHI).<\/p>\n<p>Sparks was also the only player to score more than once during the WHL Prospects Game presented by Showpass last February, an event that featured the top draft eligible prospects in the WHL. A coach&#8217;s player that can be utilized up and down a lineup and is capable to contribute in all situations. Makes an impression on both the power play and penalty kill. The type of player that works hard, battles and will stand up for his teammates. A very good skater with speed and quickness. He was in and out of the lineup as a 16-year-old. He had a good offseason and showed that he is a top-six scoring\/playmaking type of winger in the WHL. Has a heavy shot and scores regularly from the half wall with a one timer on the power play.
