Sixty-eight players will be split amongst four teams and take part in three days of scrimmages beginning on Thursday, August 27<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0at Numerica Veterans Arena. The team names will be released\u00a0once a day this week.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

TEAM GILCHRIST<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The debut team from the 2026 Chiefs Annual Camp features\u00a0a\u00a0name\u00a0from\u00a0Spokane\u2019s\u00a0debut season of 1985-86, Brent Gilchrist.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No\u00a0player\u00a0scored\u00a0at a more prolific rate\u00a0in Spokane Chiefs history\u00a0than\u00a0the Kelowna, BC native. In just 98 games, Gilchrist\u00a0tallied\u00a0190 points,\u00a0still the\u00a0franchise\u2019s\u00a0leader at 1.94 points per game\u00a0for players who appeared in more than 80\u00a0outings.\u00a0\u00a0In his second season in Spokane, Gilchrist led the Chiefs with 45 goals, 55 assists and 100 points.\u00a0That season, he\u00a0played in\u00a0just 46 games.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gilchrist\u2019s nine game goal scoring streak in 1986-87 is\u00a0still\u00a0tied\u00a0for the second longest in\u00a0franchise history and he holds the distinction of recording the organization\u2019s first hat-trick in their first ever win, a 7-4 decision at New\u00a0Westminister\u00a0in\u00a0October,\u00a01985.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his entire four-year WHL career, two with the Kelowna Wings and two with Spokane, Gilchrist scored 141 goals, 149 assists and 290 points.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fourth round in 1985, Gilchrist would\u00a0go on to\u00a0play for 15 seasons in the NHL, winning a Stanley Cup in 1998 with the Detroit Red Wings.\u00a0\u00a0Gilchrist is one of\u00a0four\u00a0former Chiefs to do so.\u00a0\u00a0He scored 135 goals and 305 points in 792 NHL games.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gilchrist was named to the Chiefs original List of Legends when the Chiefs celebrated their 25<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0anniversary in 2010.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Camp\u00a0will continue through Sunday, August 30\u00a0ending with\u00a0the annual Red vs. White\u00a0championship\u00a0game.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The camp will feature 68 players ranging from 15-20 years old. The players will be split into four teams who will take part in three days of scrimmages. The camp will follow a tournament style\u00a0where each team will compete for the Annual Chiefs Cup championship trophy. This will be awarded to the winners of the annual\u00a0Red vs. White championship game\u00a0which will\u00a0take place\u00a0on Sunday, featuring the top two teams from the week.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All scrimmages at Numerica Veterans Arena will be free and open to the public. Fans who choose to use the Numerica Veterans Arena parking lots will be charged a fee. Guests are asked to enter through the doors at the southeast portion of the Numerica Veterans Arena. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After camp ends, the team will trim the roster ahead of their WHL preseason schedule.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his first game of the tournament, Burcar opened with a hat trick against Czechia, scoring on both the power play and shorthanded. He scored a goal against Germany during the group stage before adding a goal and three assists in the USA\u2019s 5-2 semifinal win against Slovakia on Friday night. In the championship game, Burcar assisted on Team USA\u2019s only goal.<\/p>\n

Burcar scored five goals and added four assists, for a total of nine points in five games, which placed him tied for second in the tournament for points and goals.<\/p>\n

From Cota de Caza, California, Burcar appeared in 63 games in Spokane as a rookie last season, recording seven goals and 17 points.\u00a0Burcar is also committed to play at Michigan State University after the Chiefs.<\/p>\n

The 5\u20198\u201d forward was selected 36th overall in the first round of the 2026 CHL Import Draft.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to welcome Matej and his family to the Spokane Chiefs organization.\u00a0\u00a0Tom\u00e1nek is an exciting forward who plays with consistent and relentless energy every shift.\u00a0\u00a0His speed, along with his ability to make plays or finish, makes him a difficult player to defend,\u201d said Spokane Chiefs General Manager Matt Bardsley. \u201cHe finished second on his U20 team in scoring and was a key contributor for his U18 national team this year as well which included a very strong World\u2019s U18 tournament\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tom\u00e1nek was one of two players under the age of 18 to finish in the Top 30 in scoring in the Czechia U20 league. He scored 70 points, including 30 goals and 40 assists, on the HC Plzen U17 team in 2024-25 and 43 points in 40 games for the HC Plzen U20 team in 2025-26. He also played for Team Czechia at the 2025 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup and tallied three goals and three assists in seven games at the 2026 U18 Men\u2019s World Championships. Born on September 20, 2008, he will be eligible for the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Spokane Chiefs will open the season on the road, playing against the Tri-City Americans on September 19. The season home opener will take place the following weekend on September 26 where the Chiefs will face off against the Tri-City Americans once again on home ice. From Cota\u00a0De\u00a0Cazo, California,\u00a0Burcar played 63 games for the Spokane Chiefs as a rookie last season, recording 7 goals and 17 points.\u00a0Burcar\u00a0is also\u00a0committed to\u00a0play\u00a0at\u00a0Michigan\u00a0State\u00a0University\u00a0after\u00a0the\u00a0Chiefs.<\/p>\n

The team, which includes 13 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders, was selected following the\u00a02026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup Selection Camp<\/a>\u00a0at TRIA Rink in St. Paul, Minnesota.<\/p>\n
