Chiefs fall to Seattle Friday night, 4-2
Spokane, Wash. — The Seattle Thunderbirds scored two goals in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and skate to a 4-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night in the Spokane Arena. The Chiefs record drops to 2-2-0-0 overall after their first game against their U.S. Division foe.
Spokane jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with goals by Ben Bonni and Owen Martin, his first career in the WHL. Bonni took advantage of a misplay by Seattle’s goaltender Scott Ratzlaf who mishandled the puck on the side of the net. Pressure by Spokane’s Cam Parr forced the puck loose and he pushed it to Bonni who one-handed it into the open net.
Just 59-seconds later a cross-ice Ty Cheveldayoff pass broke Martin into the Seattle zone from the right wing. The 16-year-old skated in alone, faked forehand and roofed it backhand for the 2-0 lead. The goal came at 13:24 of the first.

Sam Popovich scored for the Thunderbirds at 17:43 of the first and Antonio Martorana evened the score just 43-second into the second with a power play goal.
The game remained 2-2 until Eric Alarie, who was recently acquired from the Moose Jaw Warriors and playing in his first career game in Seattle, scored the eventual game winner at 13:52 of the third. Nico Myatovic tallied an empty netter at 18:56 for the final score.
Cooper Michaluk stopped 22 shots in 25 chances while Ratzlaff was 28-30.
Seattle was 1-2 on the power play while Spokane was 0-3.
Spokane travels to Kelowna to take on the Rockets on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:30 with the Spokane Chiefs pre-game show on 103.5 The Game.
