CHIEFS RACE PAST VANCOUVER 6-2
A three goal first and a three goal third period lifted the Spokane Chiefs to a 6-2 win over the Vancouver Giants Wednesday night in Vancouver, B.C. The win was the second straight on the 4 game road trip for Spokane as the Chiefs have won five of their last six contests. The Chiefs are now 3 points ahead of Portland for third place in the U.S. Division and move a point past Kamloops for 6th in the Western Conference.
Kailer Yamamoto scored his 19th goal of the season from Presten Kopeck and Markson Bechtold just 42 seconds into the game to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Jason Fram scored just 34 seconds later from Dominic Zwerger and Hudson Elyniuk to make it 2-0 Spokane. Tyson Helgesen’s power play goal from Evan Fiala at 5:35 of the first would give the Chiefs a 3-0 lead after one. Vancouver got back in the game when Chase Lang scored two goals 1:15 apart midway through the second period to cut Spokane’s lead to 3-2 after two.
Bechtold would tip a Matt Sozanski shot in for his 12th goal of the year 1:31 into the third period to make it 4-2 Chiefs. Keanu Yamamoto scored an empty netter at 18:53 to make it 5-2 and Jarret Anderson-Dolan would cap the scoring with his 10th of the season at 19:15. Hayden Ostir picked up his first career point with an assist on Anderson-Dolan’s goal. Lasse Petersen secured his second win over Vancouver this season and second straight on the road trip with 25 saves. Spokane was out shot 27-23 in the contest, going 1-4 on the power play and a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill.
Spokane will now travel to Kelowna to face the defending league champion Rockets Friday night at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
