Chiefs add three prospects to roster ahead of weekend games
Spokane, Wash. — The Spokane Chiefs have added three prospects to their roster ahead of their games this weekend, including number one overall draft pick Berkly Catton, defenseman Will McIsaac, and goaltender Cooper Michaluk. All three will join the club as Affiliated Players.
Catton spent most of the season playing up with his hometown Saskatoon Contacts U18 AAA squad, piling up 41 points in 21 games (16G-25A) which included an 18-game point streak. He also led the SMAAAHL in points-per-game. With the conclusion of the Contacts’ playoff run, Catton will be with the Chiefs for the rest of the 2021-22 season. The forward made his WHL debut on February 12 at home against the Portland Winterhawks after becoming just the third player ever selected by the Chiefs in the first overall position (D Ty Smith – 2015, D Jared Cowen – 2006).
McIsaac made his WHL debut with the Chiefs on January 15 against the Kamloops Blazers after being selected in the second round (28th overall) of the 2021 WHL Prospect Draft. In 31 games with St. George’s School U18 Prep this season, McIsaac has earned 16 points on five goals and 11 assists.
Michaluk first joined the Chiefs back on February 9, getting his first minutes on the road in Portland stopping 5 of 7 shots in 9:28 played. Michaluk made his first WHL start on February 12 against the same Portland Winterhawks, this time at Spokane Arena earning his first career WHL win, turning aside 36 of 38 shots. The 17-year-old played 18 games this season with OHA Edmonton U18 Prep and posted a .893 SV% and 3.79 GAA with five wins.
