Broncos Earn Hard Fought Win Over Tigers
Swift Current, Sask. – The Swift Current Broncos earned a big win on Tuesday night as they defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-3 at the InnovationPlex.
The Broncos scored first with Tyson Laventure extending his point streak to 13 games, 17:41 into the first period. After taking the lead, the Broncos never looked back and Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said it was the teams most complete effort this season.
“We addressed it in the room after the game, really proud of how the guys responded today,” McEwen said. “I did think it was our most complete game in some of the things that we talked about, sorting out our d-zone, tracking back, so yeah, really happy with the effort of a lot of players tonight.”
Brady Birnie made it 2-0 Broncos just about two minutes into the second, but the Tigers came back and were putting pressure on the Broncos as Gavin McKenna made it 2-1, but the Broncos were unfazed as Laventure’s second of the night made it 3-1 Broncos after two periods.
A Caleb Wyrostok shorthanded goal made it 4-1 Broncos, but only for a short period as the Tigers got two back as Cayden Lindstrom and Tyler MacKenzie scored to get it back to 4-3. However, even with the Tigers pressing, the Broncos held their ground and Rylan Gould made it 5-3 on a powerplay and Ryan McCleary added one late into the empty net to make it 6-3.
Laventure will ultimately end the night with three points, and McEwen said he continues to be a consistent piece of the Broncos offense.
“Just his net presence on the powerplay has been huge,” McEwen said. “Just his ability to read our point and get to the side of the net and get to the goalies eyes, just his reads have been really good and his finish around the net.”
Reid Dyck stopped 34 of 37 shots he saw in the contest for his eighth win of the season.
The Broncos are back at it on Friday as they battle the Regina Pats for Teddy Bear Toss.
