Boston Pizza Recap: Broncos blanked by streaking Warriors
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Swift Current Broncos (19-26-5-1) didn’t have much go their way in a 7-0 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors (30-17-3-2) Friday night.
The Broncos had a great chance to open the scoring early in the first period, but a shot from Mathew Ward in the right circle just missed the net, sending Moose Jaw on the rush the other way.
Atley Calvert then beat Isaac Poulter under the glove from the left circle, putting the Warriors ahead 1-0 5:24 in the first period.
The Broncos had more chances to try and tie the game up, but couldn’t seem to get the puck toward the net during some scramble chances in front of the Warriors goal.
Moose Jaw then added to their lead as Eric Alarie centered from behind the Bronco net and Robert Baco tapped the feed over the glove of Poulter 12:35 into the first period. Less than two minutes later Daemon Hunt scored on a shot from the blue line off another centering feed from below the goal line.
Alarie capped off the scoring in the first period as he was the recipient of a fortuitous bounce when a blocked shot went right to him in front and he had a open net to give Moose Jaw a 4-0 lead after one.
The game remained 4-0 until late in the second period when Moose Jaw struck on the power play. Much like Alarie’s goal, a sprawling save by Poulter ended with the rebound landing right on Calvert’s stick as he scored his second of the net and Moose Jaw led 5-0 after two.
The Warriors added a pair of goals in the third while the Broncos couldn’t crack Carl Tetachuk, ultimately falling 7-0.
Swift Current now turns their attention to the Winnipeg ICE (34-8-2-1) for the first of two games against Winnipeg this weekend.
