The Kamloops Blazers headed into Wenatchee for a game against the Wild on Sunday evening.
Kamloops came out with energy to start the first frame, generating high danger chances from Nathan Behm and Jordan Keller. The Blazers maintained strong offensive pressure, firing 10 shots in the first 10 minutes on Wild netminder Cal Conway.
At the other end, goaltender Logan Edmonstone was sharp, turning aside all five shots he faced early. Kamloops struck first, as captain Ryan Michael buried his first goal of the season to make it 1-0. Kamloops kept pressing, and Behm doubled the lead shortly after, cutting in off the rush and finishing with a smooth backhand.
The Blazers continued to apply pressure early into the second frame, earning a power play that generated several quality looks. Edmonstone would then come up big, robbing the Wild of a chance on the goal line as he reached behind.
Kamloops would get another as Andrew Thomson’s back check forces the puck over to Hurlbert who fired it home to make it 3-0. The Blazers struck again just 31 seconds later, as Tommy Lafreniere beat Conway to make it 4-0. Wenatchee’s Zane Saab would finally get one back, on their 16th shot on net, cutting the deficit to three.
The third period opened with a quick one as the Wild scored just 20 seconds in when Rui Han beat Edmonstone. The Blazers answered right back though, with Behm picking up his second of the night, restoring the three goal lead.
Kamloops’ continued to dominate the offensive zone, and Keller extended the lead, on what would be his 12th goal of the season.
Kamloops hung on for the 6-2 victory. The Blazers will face the Spokane Chiefs on Tuesday in Spokane.
