The Kamloops Blazers headed to Langley for a matchup against the Vancouver Giants Sunday afternoon.
The first period got off to a quick start as the Giants struck first, with Cameron Schmidt firing one past Logan Edmonstone in the opening minutes. The Blazers responded with pressure, and had quality looks from Nathan Behm and Kayd Ruedig, but Burke Hood stood tall.
Kamloops would break through when Ruedig found J.P. Hurlbert off the rush, who sniped one past Hood to tie the game at 1-1. Vancouver regained the lead near the end of the frame, as Colton Gerroir beat Edmonstone glove side to make it 2-1.
Vancouver started the second period off on the powerplay and the Blazers were able to kill it. However, a turnover shortly after led to Schmidt notching his second of the night to make it 3-1. Schmidt would then secure the hat trick making it 4-1 midway through the period.
The Blazers generated offensive chances, including a near-miss from Tommy Lafreniere, but Burke Hood came up with the save. Edmonstone would then shut the door on Tyus Sparks for his best save of the game, keeping the game at 4-1. Late in the frame, the Giants would strike as Aaron Obobaifo scored a wrap around goal to make it 5-1.
Kamloops would get on the board early in the third as Owen Cooper picked up his fourth of the season, making it 5-2. The Giants would respond 28 seconds later with Jakob Oreskovic finding the back of the net to make it 6-2, and not long after Vancouver would add another, making it 7-2. Kamloops continued to push and Asher Gingras sniped one past Hood for his first WHL goal, making it 7-3.
Kamloops will look to reset and find a win on Tuesday against the Prince George Cougars.
