The Kamloops Blazers rolled into Spokane for a dance with the Chiefs Tuesday night.
The game got off to a quick start with a powerplay just 12 seconds in for Spokane due to a delay of game penalty. Blazers netminder Ivans Kufterins was solid, stopping the three chances on the powerplay, and shortly after made a sprawling save on a wraparound attempt.
Kamloops would then take the lead on a Nathan Behm goal as he fired home his 10th of the season to make it 1-0.
Kayd Ruedig followed up with a rocket past Carter Esler, and just minutes later Rhett Ravndahl snapped home his first of the season to push the lead to 3–0. The onslaught continued as Behm finished off a beautiful tic-tac-toe rush for his second of the night, and Ryan Michael sacrificed his body with a gutsy shot block after losing a skate blade. Cooper Moore then joined the fun, getting a tape-to-tape pass from Tommy Lafreniere to extend the lead to 5-0.
The second frame continued with energy on both ends. Finally on the Chiefs fourth powerplay, they broke through when Chase Harrington tipped a point shot past Kufterins to make it 5–1. Kamloops answered right back, as Ravndahl sniped his second of the night on a two-on-one.
The Blazers kept the momentum rolling when Ty Bonkowski threw a backhand on goal that fooled the Chiefs netminder for a 7–1 lead. The game continued to go back and forth with another opportunity for Ravndahl, but was gloved down. Moments later, Madden Tymchak laid out a thunderous hit, making his presence felt in his look at forward.
WHL player of the month JP Hurlbert then joined in on the scoring parade, making it 8-1 with 8:00 left in the second. Kufterins came up with a few key stops late, including a pair on Harrington, before Harrington eventually struck again to cut the deficit to 8–2 heading into the intermission
The third frame started off slower than the first two, with Spokane testing Kufterins again but he would stay poised between the pipes. Both teams traded chances throughout the period, with Kamloops generating a strong look on the power play but unable to beat Linus Vieillard.
Spokane pushed late, but Kufterins stood tall once again to close out a stellar performance and secure the 8–2 victory for the Blazers.
Kamloops will play home to the Everett Silvertips on Saturday.
