The Kamloops Blazers faced off against the Prince George Cougars for a second consecutive night at the CN Centre.
The opening 10 minutes was slow as both Logan Edmonstone and Alexander Levshyn faced minimal action. Prince George then nearly scored but Edmonstone came up with a sensational glove save on the goal line to keep the game scoreless.
Kamloops began to find their footing with quality looks from Tommy Lafreniere and Jacob Dumansky, but both were denied. Andrew Thomson then generated a prime opportunity to open the scoring, but Levshyn responded with another key stop, keeping the game at 0-0 heading into the intermission.
Kamloops started the second period off with spark as Nathan Behm danced his way into the zone and rang a backhand shot off both posts. The Blazers kept pressing and were rewarded when Lafreniere picked his spot, sniping his 22nd goal of the season past Levshyn to give Kamloops a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars nearly tied the game as Jett Lajoie tried to do the “Michigan” but Edmonstone stayed composed and shut the door. After a few back and forth chances, the Cougars finally found the equalizer 37 minutes into the game, with Lee Shurgot burying the teddy bear goal to make it 1-1.
Not long after the break, Behm was sprung on a breakaway but couldn’t convert. The Cougars then would gain the lead as Kooper Gizowski roofed one top shelf on Edmonstone to make it 2-1.
The Cougars continued to apply pressure, including a dangerous net-front chance from Dmitri Yakutsenak, but Edmonstone came up with a key stop to keep Kamloops within reach. Despite the push, Prince George added two more goals late to seal a 4-1 victory.
Kamloops returns home on Wednesday, December 17, when they host the Tri-City Americans.
