The Kamloops Blazers kicked off their Eastern road trip on Friday that will see them playing six games in nine nights. First stop, Prince Albert for a clash against the Raiders.
Entering the game with a 3-2-0-0 record, the Blazers look to start the trip on the right foot. With injuries affecting the lineup, Kamloops recalled 2025 first-round pick Teagen Bouchard, who made his WHL debut tonight.
The first period got off to a quick start with the Raiders striking first as Evan Smith redirects a puck past Ivans Kufterins. Then not long after, Justice Christensen snapped a shot past Kufterins to make it 2-0 Raiders early in the game. Just over a minute after that, Max Heise backhanded one past Kufterins to extend the Raiders’ lead to three. That ended Kufterins’ night, with Logan Edmonstone coming in to take over between the pipes.
The Blazers started to get momentum midway through the frame with chances coming from Owen Cooper and Cooper Moore. Their effort paid off, when Josh Evaschesen fired a shot on net creating a rebound and Nathan Behm buried it to cut the lead to two. Kamloops continued to apply pressure with Ty Bonkowski getting a big chance to round out the first.
The second frame began at a calmer pace after the wild opening few minutes of the first. The Blazers generated chances as Bonkowski and Tommy Lafreniere both by Raiders goaltender Dmitri Fortin. Logan Edmonstone came up with a huge stop of his own, turning aside Aiden Oiring on a breakaway after he slipped behind the Kamloops defence.
Midway through the period the Raiders made it 4-1 on a turnover that saw Riley Boychuk jump on a puck and put it past Edmonstone. But, Kamloops refused to back down, Blazers’ forward Jacob Dumansky nearly answered with his first WHL goal but the puck trickled past the open net. The Blazers were rewarded late in the period when JP Hurlbert danced through the Raiders’ defence and threaded a tape-to-tape pass to Owen Cooper, who buried his first of the season to cut the deficit to 4–2.
The Blazers came out for the third period with renewed confidence after closing the second with a goal. Edmonstone kept Kamloops in the game coming up with a couple of big saves midway through the period.
During a Prince Albert powerplay, Evan Markel blocked a couple of big shots and Edmonstone denied Christensen on a sharp-angle attempt to keep the deficit at two. Kamloops pushed hard down the stretch, pulling Edmonstone for the extra attacker with two minutes left, but the Raiders held firm, 5-2.
Kamloops will head to Saskatoon for a matchup against the Blades on Saturday.
