The Kamloops Blazers rolled into Moose Jaw for a Wednesday night matchup against the Warriors.
Logan Edmonstone got the start between the pipes for Kamloops. Edmonstone has posted a .917 save percent throughout the road trip.
The opening minutes were calm, with limited chances at either end. The Blazers went on an early powerplay and Nathan Behm and Jordan Keller almost capitalized on a scoring chance but were denied by a sprawling Matthew Hutchison.
Later in the frame, the Blazers’ fourth line of Logan Lanti, Jacob Dumasky, and Asher Gingras generated some energy, cycling the puck through the zone before Gingras found himself open for what could have been his first WHL goal.
The Warriors struck first when Gage Nagel beat Edmonstone on the powerplay to give Moose Jaw the 1-0 lead. The fourth line continued to press and had another chance but were denied by Hutchison.
JP Hurlbert got the second period off to a hot start after a turnover, however he was denied by Hutchison on a glorious opportunity. Moose Jaw took advantage moments later, as Aiden Ziprick fired a shot over the shoulder of Edmonstone to make it 2–0. The Warriors built off that momentum, striking again just 40 seconds later when Landen McFadden finished off a cross-crease feed.
With the ice titled, Moose Jaw added a fourth goal from Nolan Paquette. Hurlbert then broke loose for another opportunity but Hutchison came up with a big glove save. Kamloops kept pressing, and their persistence paid off as Josh Evaschesen buried his first WHL goal on a feed from Cooper Moore. Both were brought in at training camp as free agents out of the BCHL and AJHL, and each has impressed. Ziprick then answered one back for the Warriors. That would be the end of the night for Edmonstone as Ivans Kufterins came in for relief. Evaschesen wasn’t done, he found the back of the net for a second time cutting the deficit to three before the period ended.
Kamloops came out flying to start the third, with Jacob Dumansky, Cooper Moore, and Josh Evaschesen buzzing around the net before their chance deflected just wide. The pressure kept building, and it finally paid off when Evan Markel let a point shot fly that Moore redirected home to make it 5–3.
The Blazers were far from done. Tommy Lafreniere buried a rebound moments later to bring Kamloops within one, setting the stage for a wild finish. Jordan Keller then found Evaschesen in the slot for a chance at his hat trick, but Hutchison robbed him with a massive stop to keep the Warriors ahead.
The Blazers magic would then strike as Hurlbert set up Behm for the tying goal on the doorstep with 6:00 left in the third. Moments later, Hurlbert completed the stunning turnaround, sniping one home to give Kamloops their first lead of the night. With the ice completely titled now in Kamloops favour, Lafreniere sealed the deal for his second goal of the evening to make it 7-5. This capped off one of the most electrifying comebacks in Blazers recent history.
