The Kamloops Blazers headed down to Everett for a matchup against the top team in the country Friday night.
Kamloops turned to Ivans Kufterins between the pipes, while the Silvertips countered with Anders Miller.
The first opened with energy. Blazers forward Cooper Moore nearly struck first just minutes in, but Miller came up with a key early stop. At the other end, Kufterins answered with a pair of highlight-reel saves, diving across the crease to rob Everett, then flashing out his left pad to keep the game scoreless.
Kamloops would open the scoring, as Tommy Lafreniere fed a pass to Josh Evaschesen, who buried it to make it 1-0. Everett responded soon after, as Mattias Vanhanen fired a shot past Kufterins to even the score at 1-1. The Blazers would regain the lead, Jordan Keller fired a shot, and Cooper Moore redirected it into the net to make it 2-1. But the Silvertips answered just 30 seconds later, with Julius Miettinen roofing a backhand to tie the game 2–2.
The play would continue to go back and forth, with Kufterins coming up with another big stop. However, Miettinen struck again, shovelling home his second of the night to give Everett a 3-2 lead heading into the second period.
Everett wasted little time adding to their lead in the second period. Just 4:24 into the frame, Carter Bear fired a shot past Kufterins to make it 4-2. Everett kept pressing, and Julius Miettinen completed the hat trick later in the period, extending the advantage to 5–2.
Kamloops nearly cut the deficit to two on a chance from Jordan Keller, but Miller came up with the stop. Kufterins then came up with a big stop on a breakaway chance from Lukas Kaplan. The Blazers would strike, Lafreniere would wire it from above the hash marks, beating Miller to make it 5-3. However, Everett would strike again, as Luke Vlooswyk blasted a point shot through traffic that found its way past Kufterins, restoring a three-goal cushion at 6-3.
Everett started the third with a goal from Vanhanen to make it 7-3. Kamloops continued to press, but Miller shut the door. The Blazers’ best chance of the period came on the power play when Evaschesen and Vit Zahejsky nearly connected, but Miller came up with a stop. Kaplan would then strike, extending the lead to 8-3 for Everett, sealing the game.
Up next: Kamloops will host the Vancouver Giants on Saturday.
