The Kamloops Blazers hosted the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday night for the second game of a back-to-back weekend slate.
The first opened with pace and goaltender Logan Edmonstone was tested early on as the Wild garnered a powerplay just over two minutes into the period. The Blazers would kill off the penalty, and captain Ryan Michael would get the offence rolling, firing a point shot that was redirected by Owen Cooper, beating Cal Conway to make it 1-0.
Wenatchee began to find some offensive rhythm as the period progressed, but the Blazers defended well, limiting quality chances. Kamloops nearly struck again before the period closed as J.P. Hurlbert looked for his 30th goal of the season but was denied.
The second period got off to a fast start as both teams generated high quality scoring chances early on. Jacob Dumansky nearly shoveled home his first goal of the season on a prime opportunity, but Conway turned him aside.
The Wild began to find some momentum and Levi Benson came flying into the offensive zone, but Edmonstone came up with a big stop. Moments later, Edmonstone came up large again, robbing Mathias Silaban on a wraparound attempt to preserve the Blazers’ lead heading into the intermission.
Kamloops got the third period off to a quick start as Josh Evaschesen buried his 20th goal of the season, extending the Blazers lead to two. Edmonstone continued to look calm and composed in the crease, turning aside a pair of chances to keep Wenatchee off the board.
With just over 5:00 remaining, the Wild pulled their netminder and Ty Bonkowski took advantage, firing a shot into the empty net to give Kamloops a commanding 3-0 lead. The Blazers appeared to add another shortly after, but Jordan Keller’s goal was waved off.
Kamloops would close out the game from there, securing a 3-0 win as Edmonstone recorded his third shutout of the season.
