BLAZERS TAKE DOWN COUGARS 5-4 AT HOME
The Blazers won for the fifth consecutive game downing the Prince George Cougars 5-4 at home. Tim Bozon scored the opening goal which flooded the ice with teddy bears. Bozon fired a shot from just inside the blue line and the Blazers took a 1-0 lead. The Cougars responded though as 16-year-old Alex Forsberg found a loose puck and scored to make it 1-1. The Blazers responded though as Chase Souto drove the net and put in his fifth goal of the year and the Blazers led 2-1 through the first period.
The Cougars tied the game early in the second period. Jake Mykitiuk tipped a shot in and the game was tied at 2-2. The Blazers scored the next goal, as Matt Needham tipped in a shot from Bronson Maschmeyer for a 3-2 lead through two periods. Shots were even at 18 apiece.
The third period was entertaining as the Cougars tied the game up only 32 seconds into the period. The Blazers got a boost though as 17-year-old defenseman scored his first WHL goal to give the Blazers back the lead 4-3. The Blazers then took a 5-3 lead as Matt Needham set up Brendan Ranford who tucked in his 14th goal of the season. The Cougars came back as Troy Bourke buried on the power play and the game was 5-4. The Blazers hung on though and won the game 5-4.
Cougars’ goaltender Drew Owsley stopped 27 shots, while Cam Lanigan earned the win with 25 saves in goal. The Blazers finished 2-for-4 on the power play and were 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Blazers are back on home ice tomorrow night as they host the Victoria Royals tomorrow night. Game time is 7:00pm.
