For Teagen Bouchard, stepping onto the ice at his first Kamloops Blazers prospects camp was more than just an introduction to major junior hockey—it was a glimpse into what could be a life-changing opportunity.
“It’s definitely pretty cool,” Bouchard said, reflecting on the experience. “Knowing this could be the team I play for in the future, it’s exciting. Being around the other prospects and getting a feel for the organization—it’s something special.”
Bouchard, a dynamic forward with speed and skill, brings an edge to his game that immediately caught the eyes of the Blazers’ scouting staff. “Teagen is a tenacious right-shot center who was one of the top scorers on his team. We look forward to watching Teagen’s game continue to grow and are excited to be a part of his future hockey development in Kamloops,” said General Manager / Head Coach Shaun Clouston. “
Selected in the first round of the recent WHL Prospects Draft, he described the moment his name was called as surreal.
“There are no words to describe it,” he said. “You kind of have to live it to understand it. One second you’re waiting, the next you hear your name called by the Kamloops Blazers. It was an unreal moment.”
The Kamloops connection runs deep for Bouchard. He looks up to former Blazer and current NHLer Logan Stankoven—not just for his on-ice accomplishments, but for the path he paved as an undersized player who plays with oversized heart.
“I’d say Logan Stankoven is the guy I model my game after,” Bouchard said. “We’re both smaller guys, but we don’t play to our size. He’s not afraid to go into corners, he can make plays, and he plays in every situation. I think we’re similar in that way—I want to be the guy who can do it all.”
With his mix of skill, speed, and tenacity, Bouchard knows what he needs to do to make an impact. The Blazers signed the 2010-born forward to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement shortly after camp. From a wide-eyed draftee to a player ready to prove himself, Bouchard is making the most of his moment—and Kamloops fans should be excited about what’s ahead.
