Jacob Dumansky made his return to the Kamloops Blazers’ prospects camp last month after a strong season with Yale Hockey Academy, where he tallied 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points in 32 games.
The Langley, B.C. native also made his WHL debut with the Blazers, appearing in one game against the Vancouver Giants back in December.
“It’s been great coming back,” Dumansky said. “With all the new topics and all the other prospects here, I’ve just been trying to lead them through that and help out where I can.”
While Dumansky remains focused on continuing his development, he’s embracing the opportunity to set an example. He hopes his work ethic and energy set the tone.
“For me, it’s just about working hard, bringing energy, and communicating with all the other guys,” he said. “That’s something I really wanted to show this time around.”
The 2009-born forward showed flashes of skill and versatility throughout the camp, and his growing confidence was evident. As for how he models his game, “Probably Roope Hintz,” he said, referencing the Dallas Stars’ two-way centre. “He’s a fast, two-way forward, good on faceoffs, and just an all-around good player.”
Dumansky represented Team British Columbia at the WHL Cup, where he tallied five goals and eight points in five games.
Dumansky may still be carving out his identity within the Blazers organization, but his second camp showed that he is ready to take the next step forward and will be a player to watch come main camp in August.
