The Kamloops Blazers hosted the Vancouver Giants Saturday night for “Legends night” to honour former Blazer netminder, Devan Dubnyk.
Kamloops once again looked to Logan Edmonstone in the crease, the Giants went with Kelton Pyne.
The Giants opened the scoring early in the first period when Sam Charko beat Edmonstone with a shot to make it 1-0. Kamloops applied pressure, with high-danger chances coming from Nathan Behm and J.P. Hurlbert, but Pyne made the stops. The Blazers nearly tied the game when Behm found space down low, but Pyne made a sprawling save to keep the Giants ahead. Kamloops continued to push and had another prime scoring opportunity when Jordan Keller fired a one-timer, but the puck sailed just wide.
Kamloops got the second off to a hot start as Hurlbert and Behm connected, with Behm blasting home a one-timer to tie the game up at 1-1, just 23 seconds into the frame. Kamloops struck again shortly after, as Hurlbert found the back of the net himself, firing a shot past Pyne to give the Blazers a 2–1 lead.

The Blazers kept the pressure on midway through the period, Hurlbert fed a pass to Harrison Brunicke, who slid the puck across the crease to Behm. Behm wired it past Pyne for his second of the night, extending the lead to 3-1. With under a minute remaining in the period, Josh Evaschesen delivered a no-look pass to Lafreniere, who blasted a one-timer past Pyne to make it 4-1 heading into the intermission.
The Blazers continued right where they left off to start the third, with Lafreniere extending the lead, for his second goal of the night. Edmonstone continued to sty busy, coming up with a clutch sprawling save on a one-timer from Mathis Preston. Keller added to the Blazers’ lead midway through the period on a shorthanded marker, making it 6-1.
The Giants continued to pressure late in the game, but Edmonstone remained sharp between the pipes. Vancouver managed to get one back in the closing moments when Will Sharpe fired a shot through traffic that beat Edmonstone. Kamloops would close out the game with a big 6-2 win.
Up next: The Blazers will play home to the Tri-City Americans on Wednesday.
