The 5-foot-10 winger helped his school claim the 2026 Minnesota High School Hockey 1A State Championship in front of 10,000+ fans at Grand Casino Arena. Andersen scored twice in the semifinal game before striking two more times in the title game, including a dramatic, game-tying goal with 46 seconds to go in regulation. The Ostrov, CZE native was drafted by the Blades in the first round (42nd overall) of the 2026 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMartin was the number one player on our list for the last several months,\u201d said Blades general manager and president, Colin Priestner, \u201cMyself and Jeff Harvey have gotten to know him, and he\u2019s just an outstanding kid full of energy and enthusiasm, on top of being a world-class goalie going in the second round at the NHL Draft. Martin really wanted to be in Saskatoon, and we are absolutely thrilled to have him join our club.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old netminder was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft in June. Psohlavec attended his first NHL Development Camp a few days later with the Flyers. The 6-foot-5 goalie played for HC Energie Karlovy Vary of the U20 Czechia League last season. Psohlavec appeared in 42 games and posted a 31-11-0 record, .928 save percentage (SV%), 1.92 goals against average (GAA), and eight shutouts. Psohlavec appeared in 12 games internationally with Czechia\u2019s U18 squad, going 7-5-0 with a .910 SV%, 2.15 GAA, and one shutout. The U17 World Hockey Challenge is held in November, featuring Team Canada White and Team Canada Red. If selected, this year&#8217;s tournament would be the first time in Martinuik&#8217;s young career representing his country.<\/p>\n<p>The Peachland, BC native was drafted by the Blades in the first round (15th overall) during the 2025 Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft. The 6-foot forward was sensational in his second year at Shattuck St. Mary&#8217;s in Minnesota. In 50 games with the U16 AAA team, Martinuik finished fourth in team scoring with 29 goals and 32 assists for 61 points, tacking on 68 penalty minutes as well. The dominant season built off an impressive U14 AAA campaign with Shattuck St. Mary&#8217;s in 2024-25, in which Martinuik potted 44 goals and 36 assists for 80 points in 57 games, along with 110 penalty minutes. Yegor comes from a great program in Siberia where they regularly play in front of 10,000 fans a night, so we&#8217;re hopeful he can make an impact an impact with us right away with his competitive nature.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The right-handed shot potted 27 goals and 24 assists for 51 points in 49 games with the MHL&#8217;s Siberskie Snaipery Novosibirsk. Sarauer took the lead on Saskatoon&#8217;s penalty kill, which finished top ten both seasons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m incredibly grateful and excited to be returning to the Blades,&#8221; said Sarauer, &#8220;I&#8217;d like to thank the Priestner family and Steve Hildebrand for their continued trust and belief in me. The 41-year-old is 76-50-15 as Blades head coach, five wins coming in an interim role during the 2023-24 season in the absence of then head coach Brennan Sonne at the U17 Hockey Challenge. In his first full season as head coach in 2024-25, DaSilva led the sixth-youngest team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) to a 37-23-8 record, one win shy of a second consecutive East Division Title. DaSilva was named a finalist for the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the league&#8217;s coach of the year. Last season, DaSilva coached Saskatoon to a 34-27-7 record. The Bridge City Bunch advanced to Round 2 of the WHL Playoffs after a back-and-forth seven-game series against the third-seeded Edmonton Oil Kings. The Blades downed Edmonton 3-2 in Game 7 overtime on the road. The victory marked the first time in franchise history the Blue and Gold won a Game 7 away from home.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to head coaching duties, DaSilva started as an assistant coach for his hometown team in the 2021-22 season. DaSilva helped the Blades reach the Eastern Conference Final for the first time in 29 years in 2023. DaSilva was promoted to associate coach ahead of the 2023-24 season. The Blades captured the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for the best regular season record at 50-13-5, reaching Game 7 overtime of the Eastern Conference Final in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Before beginning his coaching career in Saskatoon, DaSilva played pro for 15 years across North America and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 U17 Hockey Challenge takes place between Sunday, Nov. 1 to Saturday, Nov. 7. This season, 370 WHL graduate players have been awarded WHL Scholarships, representing an investment of over $40 million by WHL Clubs. This season, WHL Clubs have contributed nearly $3 million to the 370 WHL graduates utilizing the WHL Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">Administered by the WHL Office, WHL Scholarships are solely funded by WHL member Clubs. Every player who plays in the WHL is eligible to receive the WHL Scholarship. For every season played in the WHL, players receive a guaranteed, full year of WHL Scholarship, including tuition, textbooks, and compulsory fees to a post-secondary institution of their choice. The WHL Scholarship is a full guaranteed academic scholarship with no requirement to play university hockey to qualify.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\"><strong><u>NEW FOR 2026-27<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\"><strong>One week extension of WHL Regular Season Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">Beginning with the 2026-27 WHL Regular Season, the WHL regular season schedule will extend by one week. The WHL tiebreaker game will no longer be used to break a tie for the eighth seed in a conference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">The decision to decompress the WHL schedule was approved by the WHL Board of Governors and WHL General Managers in association with a variety of initiatives to continue to augment the WHL Player Experience, to enhance player development, and to adapt to the changing hockey landscape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\"><strong>Air Travel for Select Road Games<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">Beginning with the 2026-27 WHL Regular Season, WHL Clubs will be permitted to travel via air for one (1) set of road games to start and return home, under the following parameters:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Trip by bus must be greater than 10 hours;<\/li>\n<li>Applies to out-of-conference travel only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">The decision to allow WHL Clubs to fly for one (1) set of road games was approved by the WHL Board of Governors in association with a variety of initiatives to continue to augment the WHL Player Experience, to enhance player development, and to adapt to the changing hockey landscape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\"><strong>\u2018No Return\u2019 Three-on-Three Overtime Pilot<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">The 2026 WHL Preseason will feature a pilot project aimed at enhancing the fan experience of three-on-three overtime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">Under the \u2018No Return\u2019 three-on-three overtime format, once a team has gained the blueline, a player cannot deliberately carry, pass, or shoot the puck outside the blueline. Should this occur, play will immediately be whistled down (unless the opposing team collects the puck first) and the resulting face-off will occur in the defensive zone of the offending team with no line change permitted. The team benefitting from the offensive zone faceoff will have the opportunity to select which circle the faceoff occurs in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">\u2018No Return\u2019 three-on-three overtime has been contemplated in early anticipation of changing coaching strategies during three-on-three overtimes that are highly conservative and may potentially reduce the excitement of the extra period. Key measures for this pilot will include the number of shot attempts and scoring chances in overtime and the percentage of game outcomes determined by overtime prior to a shootout.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">All 2026 WHL Preseason games, regardless of final score, will feature \u2018No Return\u2019 three-on-three overtime to allow all Clubs the opportunity to pilot the rule.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">Following the 2026 WHL Preseason, WHL General Managers will vote on the implementation of \u2018No Return\u2019 Three-on-Three Overtime for the 2026-27 WHL Regular Season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\"><strong>First Round of WHL Playoffs \u2013 Best-of-Five Series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">Beginning in 2027, the first round of the WHL Playoffs will be contested as best-of-five series.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">To accommodate the extra week in the regular season, this change will allow the playoffs to be completed on its existing schedule for the WHL Champion to participate in the Memorial Cup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">The WHL Playoffs will begin Wednesday, March 31, 2027, and the first-round format will vary based on the geography of the competing teams, availability of facilities, and preferences of the higher-seeded Club. The Ostrav, CZE native appeared in 42 games and posted a 31-11-0 record, .928 save percentage (SV%), 1.92 goals against average (GAA), and eight shutouts. Psohlavec appeared in 12 games with Czechia&#8217;s U18 squad, going 7-5-0 with a .910 SV%, 2.15 GAA, and one shutout.
