Team Pinder captures 2024 Kirkness Cup presented by Motion Fitness
Saskatoon, SK – Team Pinder (Black) hoisted the Kirkness Cup on Sunday at SaskTel Centre as they defeated Team Federko (Gold) 5-3 in the closing game of Saskatoon Blades 2024 Training Camp presented by Motion Fitness.
It was back-and-forth action as both teams held the lead at certain points. Penalties were an issue for Team Federko, resulting in the first three of Team Pinder’s goals to come on a penalty shot. Team Pinder trailed 3-2 early in the second half, but veteran forward Misha Volotovskii’s penalty shot magic earned him his third goal of the weekend. It appeared overtime may be needed until 2009-born forward Mason Moreland scored with under five minutes remaining to give Team Pinder a 4-3 lead. The Irvine, CA native’s tally stood as the game-winning, and gave him a tournament-leading four goals to end the weekend.
It’s the second straight year that Team Black has won the Kirkness Cup in honour of the late Bobby Kirkness. Team Maracle’s (White) Luke Senick finished the weekend with three goals, and Team Federko defenceman Jordan Martin with two.
Team Maracle won the third-place game in the morning 4-1 against Team Belak (Blue) after going 0-3-0 in round-robin play.
