Six Blades prospects participating in 2025 WHL Cup
Saskatoon, SK – There will be plenty of Saskatoon Blade representation at next week’s Western Hockey League (WHL) Cup in Red Deer, AB. Six 2010-born prospects from the organization will represent their respective province including defencemen Braden Nowoselski and Dax McDougall (Team Saskatchewan), forwards Noah Fowler, Alex Sharman, and Nicholas Voinea (Team BC), and goaltender Bracken Larocque (Team Alberta).
Nowoselski is off to a solid start in his first season with the Saskatchewan Minor AAA Hockey League’s (SMAAAHL) Moose Jaw Warriors. Drafted in the second round (43rd overall) at the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, Nowoselski has a pair of goals and assists in eight games. Patrolling the blueline alongside him at the WHL Cup is right-handed shot Dax McDougall. The 15-year-old defenceman is in his first season with the SMAAAHL’s Saskatoon Blazers after being selected by the Blades in the sixth round (118th overall) back in May.
Fowler’s off to a point-per-game start out west with the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s (CSSHL) St. George’s Prep U18 squad. The 24th overall pick of the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft has a goal and two assists in three games in his first year of U18 action. Up front with Fowler is forward Nicholas Voinea of the CSSHL’s U17 Yale Hockey Academy. In four games to start the season, the White Rock, BC native has three goals and two assists. Completing the trio of Blades forwards on Team BC is Blades 2025 ninth-round pick Alex Sharman. The 6-foot-1 forward has a goal and two assists in two games Rink HA Kelowna U17 Prep of the CSSHL.
Between the pipes in Alberta is Blades 2025 fourth-round selection Bracken Larocque. The 15-year-old netminder is 1-1-0 in three appearances this season with the Alberta Elite Hockey League’s (AEHL) Grande Peace Storm U18 AAA team.
The 2025 WHL Cup will showcase the top 2010-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Established in 2009, the tournament is held every season except in years when the Canada Winter Games are contested, and is the first step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence for players. This year’s tournament runs from Wednesday, Oct. 22 – Sunday, Oct 26.
