It’s the conclusion of a four-game home-stand for the Blue and Gold, currently 2-0-1-0 through the first three contests. Saskatoon won back-to-back games last weekend after a 2-1 win Friday against the Spokane Chiefs, followed by a 2-0 shutout Saturday against the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Blades have earned at least a point in every game this home-stand, losing 5-4 in overtime to open the home stretch on October 5.
Tonight’s the first meeting of the season between the Highway 11 rivals. Saskatoon won six of the eight meetings last year against Regina, outscoring them 39-20.
Who to Watch
Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick Evan Gardner picked up his first shutout of the season in Saturday’s 2-0 win against the Warriors. The 18-year-old netminder collected back-to-back wins against the Chiefs and Warriors, stopping 40-of-41 shots between both victories. The 6-foot-2 netminder is 3-1-1-0 on the year with a .907 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average. Gardner was drafted in the second round (60th overall) by the Blue Jackets at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
19-year-old forward Rowan Calvert has points in six straight contests. The Moose Jaw, SK native has five goals, three being game-winners and powerplay markers, and three assists in that span. Calvert scored the game-winning goal 47 seconds into the third period of Saturday’s win over Moose Jaw on the powerplay. The 5-foot-11 winger had four powerplay tallies in 68 games last year and is already on pace to smash that total in eight games this season.
NHL draft-eligible forward David Lewandowski played his first WHL game Saturday against Moose Jaw. The Blades selected the 6-foot-2 German in the second round (120th overall) of the 2024 CHL Import Draft in July. Lewandowski got his first practice in with the club yesterday after an impressive showing against the Warriors.
