The Saskatoon Blades welcome the Vancouver Giants to SaskTel Centre at 7:00pm for the lone regular season meeting between the two clubs.
It’s a matchup fans in Saskatoon only get to see once every second year at SaskTel Centre. The last time the two clubs met in the Bridge City was January 10, 2024 when Washington Capitals prospect Alexander Suzdalev scored a hat-trick in a four-point performance to lead the Blades to a 7-2 win. The visitors got the better of Saskatoon last year in Langley, BC, downing the Blades 7-6 in a wild start the the Blue and Gold’s BC road trip.
Tonight’s feature item at the Frozen Pond is a Blades blue cuffed collection hoodie.
Top spot in the East Division is Saskatoon’s for the taking tonight. Come out to the arena and help remind Vancouver whose house this is!
Last time out
The Blades earned four of a possible four points last weekend. Head Coach Dan DaSilva and his squad downed the Red Deer Rebels 4-2 at home on Friday and followed it with a 6-3 win on the road Sunday against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Blades jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period Sunday and never looked back. Outshooting the Wheat Kings 41-26 overall, the Blades outshot Brandon in every period. The man-advantage was on fire throughout the weekend as the Blades went 2/2 in Brandon and 4/6 across two games. Saskatoon allowed two goals on three Brandon powerplay attempts, both in garbage time up 6-1 with under two minutes remaining in the game.
Standings
The Good Guys
Edmonton Oilers draft pick David Lewandowski scored a career-high five points in Sunday’s win against Brandon. The 6-foot-2 winger scored the Blades second powerplay goal of the game in the final frame and dished four helpers prior. 20-year-old winger Dominik Petr cracked 100 points in his WHL career with a four-point performance Sunday. It was a bittersweet game for the former Wheat King, who notched two goals and two assists against his former team. Petr was acquired by the Blades in the offseason from the Wheat Kings after he spent two seasons with Brandon. Both men are tied for the team lead in points with eight. Sophomore blueliner Jordan Martin found the scoresheet on all three Saskatoon first period goals. The 18-year-old defenceman scored the opening goal of the game and tallied two assists afterwards.
The opposition
The Giants hit the midpoint of their East Division road trip. The visitors are 1-1 so far on their trip. Vancouver was handed a 7-5 loss on Friday courtesy of the Swift Current Broncos. The Giants’ potent offence responded with a 5-3 win the next night against the Moose Jaw Warriors. Keeping the puck out of their net has been a struggle for the Giants who own the most goals surrendered in the Western Conference with 29. The only other team who has allowed more goals so far this season are the Wheat Kings with 31. 2025 Dallas Stars third-round pick Cameron Schmidt leads all Vancouver forwards with nine points (2G, 7A), three of his helpers coming in Saturday’s win over Moose Jaw. Tied with him for the team lead in points is top NHL draft-eligible defenceman Ryan Lin with two goals and seven assists.
