The Saskatoon Blades (28-17-3-4) jostle for positioning in the Eastern Conference playoff race this afternoon as they welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings (28-16-4-3) to SaskTel Centre. It’s a 4:00pm showdown between two East Division rivals who are tied at 63 points in the standings. Both teams are one point back of the East Division’s top Prince Albert Raiders. It’s the sixth of eight meetings between the Blades and Wheat Kings and second of the month. Saskatoon took the extra point on February 7 on the road at Westoba Place in a 3-2 overtime win. The Bridge City Bunch lead the season series 3-2.
It’s the third game in four days for the Blue and Gold. Friday saw the Blades pick up a 6-3 win at home against the Calgary Hitmen, followed by a 6-5 shootout loss the next night at InnovationPlex against the Swift Current Broncos.
Who to Watch
Alternate captain Rowan Calvert dished a career-high three assists in Saturday’s loss to the Broncos. The 19-year-old winger has two goals and five assists on his current four-game point streak. Calvert sits second in team-scoring with 46 points (21G, 25A) in 48 games. The Moose Jaw, SK native is also tied for second across the WHL in powerplay goals with 16.
16-year-old centre Cooper Williams enters today’s contest sixth in WHL rookie scoring. Since the calendar flipped to 2025, Williams has nine goals and six assists in 18 games. The Calgary, AB native leads Saskatoon rookies in points with 16 goals and 22 assists in 52 games.
NHL draft-eligible winger David Lewandowski scored a goal and an assist in Saturday’s loss against the Broncos. The Dusseldorf, GER product snapped a 14-game goalless drought with the goal, giving him nine goals and 19 assists in 36 games his rookie year. Lewandowski leads all Blades at +19.
