The Saskatoon Blades (23-14-2-3) finish their three-game home-stand tonight at SaskTel Centre against the Swift Current Broncos (21-18-1-1).
The Blades are coming off an emotional 4-3 overtime win Friday at home against the Red Deer Rebels. Trailing by a pair heading into the third period, rookie forward Cooper Williams scored two goals to force the game past 60 minutes. Sophomore centre Hayden Harsanyi needed all of 56 seconds in overtime to score the game-winning goal for Saskatoon.
Tonight’s the fifth meeting of the season between the Blades and Broncos. Saskatoon leads the season series 3-1, outscoring Swift Current 20-13. It’s the ninth game of the month for Saskatoon, 3-4-0-1 through the first eight. The Blades hold a four-point lead over the Prince Albert Raiders for first place in the East Division.
Who to Watch
Rookie forward Cooper Williams has four goals in his last four games. The Blades’ second pick of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft is eighth in WHL rookie scoring with 12 goals and 17 assists in 42 games.
2007-born forward Hayden Harsanyi has three goals and two assists in four games since joining the Blades on January 6. The 5-foot-10 centre was acquired by Saskatoon in a trade that also brought defenceman Jack Kachkowski and five WHL Prospects Draft picks in exchange for defenceman Tanner Molendyk and forward Misha Volotovskii. Harsanyi scored his first game-winning goal of the season Friday in overtime against Red Deer, giving him four goals and five assists in 11 games this season.
17-year-old forward David Lewandowski registered two assists in Friday’s victory against the Rebels. The NHL draft-eligible winger was ranked 52nd amongst North American skaters on Tuesday by NHL Central Scouting for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft in June. Lewandowski has eight goals and 11 assists in 26 games his rookie season.
