Tonight
The Saskatoon Blades (22-14-2-3) hit the midpoint of their three-game home-stand Friday as they welcome the Red Deer Rebels (15-21-3-2) to SaskTel Centre.
The Blades earned a point Wednesday at home after a 4-3 shootout loss against the Portland Winterhawks. Saskatoon held a two-goal lead with under five minutes remaining in regulation, but an onslaught from the Winterhawks offence forced the extra frame.
Tonight’s the fourth meeting of the season between last year’s Eastern Conference semi-final combatants. The Blades are 1-1-0-1 in the season series, winning the last meeting on January 7 in Red Deer 3-2 in overtime. Saskatoon holds a three-point lead on first place in the East Division over the Prince Albert Raiders.
Who to Watch
2007-born forward Hayden Harsanyi has three goals and one assist in three games since joining the Blades on January 6. The 5-foot-10 centre was acquired by Saskatoon in a trade that also brought defenceman Jack Kachkowski and five WHL Prospects Draft picks in exchange for defenceman Tanner Molendyk and forward Misha Volotovskii. Harsanyi scored his first powerplay goal of the season Wednesday against Portland, extending his point streak to five games (3G, 4A).
Alternate captain Rowan Calvert scored his team-leading 12th powerplay goal of the season Wednesday against the Winterhawks. The Moose Jaw, SK product has the second most goals on the man-advantage in the WHL this season. Calvert’s scored two goals and one assist on his current three-game point streak.
