The Saskatoon Blades visit the defending Western Hockey League (WHL) Champion Medicine Hat Tigers to conclude their two-game Southern Alberta road trip. Tonight’s 7:00pm contest at Co-op Place marks the first of four meetings this season between the two Eastern Conference clubs.
Last time out
Saskatoon roared back from a 3-0 deficit last night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena against the Lethbridge Hurricanes to pick up a 5-3 victory. Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Evan Gardner came in for relief of fellow 19-year-old netminder Ethan McCallum 12:05 into the opening frame. The third-year WHL netminder stopped all 17 shots against the remainder of the game to pick up his first win of the season. The Blades special teams was the difference maker, capitalizing on 2/5 powerplays and stopping all four Lethbridge man-advantages.
The good guys
2006-born forward Hunter Laing, and 2007-born forward David Lewandowski made their presence felt last night in Lethbridge. Laing and Lewandowski kick-started the comeback for Saskatoon recording a goal and an assist each in the first game back from their respective National Hockey League (NHL) training camps. 20-year-old alternate captain Rowan Calvert extended his point streak to three games with an empty net goal in last night’s victory. The Moose Jaw, SK native leads the team in points with three goals and one assist through three games. Calvert has a goal on the man-advantage this season after scoring 16 last year on the powerplay, tied for second in the WHL in 2024-25. 20-year-old forward Dominik Petr extended his point streak to three games with the game-winning goal last night in Lethbridge. The former Brandon Wheat King scored his second powerplay goal of the season 4:30 into the third period to make it 4-3 Saskatoon. Petr has two goals and an assist through three games this season.
The Opposition
The Tigers enter tonight fresh off a 6-3 loss last night in Swift Current against the Broncos. 20-year-old defenceman and newly named captain Bryce Pickford leads the team in points with five (3G, 2A).
