The Saskatoon Blades (22-12-2-2) visit Rogers Place Wednesday for their third meeting of the year against the Edmonton Oil Kings (20-14-1-2). Saskatoon won the first two meetings this season, one on the road 6-2 and the second 3-2 at SaskTel Centre. It was a well-deserved win for the Bridge City Bunch last night at the Peavey Mart Centrium, defeating the Red Deer Rebels 3-2 in overtime. Saskatoon outshot Red Deer 21-3 in the second period and finished 44-27 by game’s end. The Blades are 2-0 on their four-game road trip and have won four straight road contests. Saskatoon sits first in the Eastern Conference with 48 points.
Who to Watch
Calgary Flames draft pick Hunter Laing is expected to make his Blades debut tonight in Edmonton. The 2006-born centre product was acquired by the Blades in the blockbuster deal this morning that 19-year-old forward Ben Riche go the other way to the Prince George Cougars. The 6-foot-6 forward has ten goals and 12 assists in 36 games this season. 2007-born defenceman Jack Kachkowski made his Blades debut last night in Red Deer after he was acquired by the Blades from the Medicine Hat Tigers on Monday. Fellow 17-year-old forward Kazden Mathies also made his Saskatoon debut yesterday after he was acquired Monday from the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Rookie winger Zach Olsen scored his sixth goal of the season last night in Red Deer. The Calgary, AB product has 15 points (6G, 9A) in 33 games with the Bridge City Bunch this season.
Alternate captain Tyler Parr scored two goals, including the overtime winner, in yesterday’s win against the Rebels. The La Salle, MB native has back-to-back two-goal games, giving him six points (4G, 2A) in his last four games. Parr has career highs in goals (16), assists (22), and points (38) in 36 games this season.
