The Saskatoon Blades (16-6-1-1) welcome the Swift Current Broncos for the second half of their doubleheader weekend at SaskTel Centre. The Blades emerged victorious 4-1 last night against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Tonight’s the second game of a four-game home-stand for the Blue and Gold. It’s also the fourth-of-eight meetings between the Saskatchewan rivals this season. The Blades lead the season series 2-1, outscoring the Broncos 16-10 through three games. The Broncos were victorious the last time these two squared-off at InnovationPlex on October 4 with a 6-3 victory.
Who to Watch
Rookie forward Zach Olsen scored his fourth goal of the season Friday against Lethbridge. It was a special goal for the 16-year-old type 1 diabetic, scoring in the Blades’ diabetes awareness game in partnership with Diabetes Canada. Olsen is third in Saskatoon rookie scoring with ten points (4G, 6A) in 19 games.
20-year-old sniper Brandon Lisowsky scored the opening goal in last night’s win against the Hurricanes. The Port Coquitlam, BC product is now tied eighth place alongside legend Bernie Federko on the Blades’ all-time goal-scoring list after his 12th of the season. The former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick is at 133 goals, 115 assists, and 248 points in 245 career WHL games, all with Saskatoon. In 18 games this year, Lisowsky is fourth on the team in scoring with 12 goals and 11 assists.
Alternate captain Rowan Calvert scored his team-leading ninth powerplay goal and fourth game-winning goal last night against Lethbridge. The 19-year-old winger tied his career-high in points with the tally, sitting at 12 goals, 13 assists, and 25 points in 24 games this season.
