The Saskatoon Blades (10-7-2-0) eye a return to the win column as they welcome the Calgary Hitmen (11-4-2-0) to SaskTel Centre.
Tonight’s the second half of a weekend doubleheader at home for Saskatoon. The Bridge City Bunch lost 6-5 last night to the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Blades outscored Moose Jaw 5-4 in the final 40 minutes, but a two-goal first period for the Warriors was the difference. A combined five powerplay goals were scored between the East Division rivals.
“We just have to reset here, stay confident, and keep that belief that tomorrow is going to be our day,” said Blades Head Coach Dan DaSilva after last night’s loss, “But, at the end of the day, we need to show up and play a full 60 minutes if we’re going to have success.”
The Blades trailed 4-0 22 minutes into the game. NHL draft-eligible centre Cooper Williams scored his first of two goals on the night four minutes into the second period to breathe life into the Blades. Williams’ second goal came eight minutes later and marked the team’s first short-handed tally of the year. The “B” ranked prospect by NHL Central Scouting has seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 17 games this season.
Edmonton Oilers draft pick David Lewandowski and Blades captain Tyler Parr each had two points in the loss. Lewandowski scored a powerplay goal and an assist, while Parr dished two helpers.
Tonight marks the first meeting of the season between the Blades and Hitmen. It’s a first-round rematch from the 2025 Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs when the young Blades were swept in four games to the powerhouse Hitmen.
