Blades re-up assistant coach Sarauer to two-year deal
Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades are happy to welcome Andrew Sarauer back for two years as the club’s assistant coach. The Outlook, SK native served as the Blades’ assistant coach for the past two seasons under head coach Dan DaSilva, helping the young club achieve a 71-50-15 record. Sarauer took the lead on Saskatoon’s penalty kill, which finished top ten both seasons.
“I’m incredibly grateful and excited to be returning to the Blades,” said Sarauer, “I’d like to thank the Priestner family and Steve Hildebrand for their continued trust and belief in me. It’s a privilege to be part of such a first-class organization.”
The 41-year-old began his career behind the bench with the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Wenatchee Wild in 2023-24 as an assistant coach. Prior to coaching, Sarauer played professionally for 15 seasons across North American and Europe after being selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Sarauer also attained his Hungarian citizenship and played seven years with the Hungarian National Team, where he played in international events with Blades legend Frank Banham.
“Andrew is very deserving of this extension,” said DaSilva, “He’s a hard worker who cares a lot about the players and the Blades organization. He’s committed to helping players be the best they can be and is very well liked amongst players and staff.”
Sarauer rejoins DaSilva’s coaching staff featuring assistant coach Tye Scherger, goaltending coach Jeff Harvey, assistant coach Jerome Engele, and video coach Braeden Dahl.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to work with our players and the coaching staff, and continuing to build on what we have accomplished the last couple of seasons,” said Sarauer.
