Blades prospect Timmerman named to 2025 Junior A World Challenge
Calgary, AB – Saskatoon Blades prospect goaltender Taye Timmerman is one of 44 players Hockey Canada unveiled across the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) who will wear the Maple Leaf with Canada East and Canada West at the 2025 Junior A World Challenge. The challenge is set for December 7 – December 13 in Trois-Rivières, QB.
The 22 players representing Canada East were selected from the CJHL’s five eastern leagues – the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Québec (LHJAAAQ) and Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL).
The 22 players representing Canada West come from the CJHL’s four western leagues – the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL). Timmerman will represent Team West on behalf of the SJHL’s Warman Wolverines
Timmerman was signed by the Blades at the beginning of the 2025-26 season. In 12 games with Warman this season, the Winnipeg, MB native has a 4-8-0-0 record with a .873 save percentage (SV%) and 4.34 goals against average (GAA).
The 6-foot goalie backstopped the MJHL’s Northern Manitoba Blizzard last season, posting a 20-13-1 record, .908 SV%, 2.60 GAA, and two shutouts in 34 regular season appearances. Timmerman was named playoff MVP as he helped the Blizzard to the MJHL Championship, going 12-4 with a .937 SV%, 1.68 GAA, and one shutout. Timmerman’s biggest performance came in the championship-deciding Game 7 against the Dauphin Kings, where he stopped 55 of 56 shots in a 2-1 triple overtime victory to send his team to the 2025 Centennial Cup.
The 2025 Junior A World Challenge gets underway at Colisée Vidéotron on December 7 when Canada East opens the tournament against the United States at 3:00pm ET, followed by 2024 bronze medallist Canada West taking on Sweden at 7:00pm ET. The tournament concludes with the medal games on December 13.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Canada East and Canada West will face-off in pre-tournament action on December 3 at 6:00pm ET at Colisée Vidéotron. Canada East will also take on Sweden on December 5 at 7:00pm ET at Colisée Jean-Béliveau in Longueuil, Québec, while Canada West will play the United States on December 5 at 7:00pm ET at Aréna de Montmagny in Montmagny, Québec.
