[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Tri-City Americans announced today that Mark Romas has joined the organization\u2019s hockey operations staff as a scout, bringing more than 30 years of scouting experience. Romas will be based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome Mark to our staff. He brings valuable experience to our scouting network,\u201d said General Manager Bob Tory.<\/p>\n

Romas most recently served as a scout and liaison with RSG Hockey from 2023 to 2026, where he identified talent, facilitated communication between players and the agency, and maintained relationships with established clients. Before joining RSG, he spent five seasons as the director of scouting for the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2017 to 2022, helping identify, evaluate and recruit players for the WHL Bantam Draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I retired from the WHL, I thought that chapter of my career was behind me.\u00a0My time with RSG reminded me how much I still enjoy scouting and working with players and their families,\u201d Romas said, \u201cso when the opportunity came to join the Tri-City Americans with Bob and Cal, it was one I simply couldn\u2019t pass up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Romas will play a key role in strengthening the Americans\u2019 scouting efforts across Western Canada and the United States. In addition to evaluating players, he will help build relationships with players and their families throughout the recruiting process.<\/p>\n

The Americans acquired Kraft from the Wenatchee Wild in a trade completed on July 14, 2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cOwen is a highly skilled, dynamic forward with an elite hockey IQ and a high compete level,\u201d stated Tory.<\/p>\n

We look forward to having Owen attend training camp this fall and compete for a roster spot this season. We are pleased to welcome Owen and his family to the Tri-City Americans.<\/p>\n

        • Right defenseman Lincoln Baschuk was selected from NAX U15 Prep with the 37th overall pick in the second round. During the 2025-26 season, he recorded 3 goals and 20 assists for 23 points in 29 games and added 26 penalty minutes.<\/li>\n
        • Left wing Steven Leavitt was selected from OHA Edmonton U15 Prep with the 99th overall pick in the fifth round. During the 2025-26 season, he recorded 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 points in 24 games and added 36 penalty minutes.<\/li>\n
        • Goaltender Alexandre Montembeault was selected from CIHA U15 Prep with the 141st overall pick in the seventh round. During the 2025-26 season, he posted a 3.79 goals-against average and an .891 save percentage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          \u201cOwen is a highly skilled offensive player who possesses a high hockey IQ and tremendous work ethic,\u201d said Tory.<\/p>\n

          Owen Kraft, of Moorhead, Minn., was born July 26, 2010. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound left-center played for the Moorhead Bantam U15 team, where he emerged as one of the club’s top offensive contributors. He finished the 2024-2025 season with 45 goals, 43 assists and 88 points, showcasing a consistent scoring touch and playmaking ability.<\/p>\n

          The 6\u20192 205lb Center from Praha, Czechia played last season for Linkoping Hockey Club in Sweden for both the U 18 and U 20 teams. This is the former team of Americans Alumni Malte Stromwall.<\/p>\n

          He also participated in the World Under 18 Championships for Czechia in April recording 3 goals and 2 assists in 7 games.<\/p>\n

          David, is a power forward, who plays a strong 200-foot game. He has a physical element to his game combined with very good hockey IQ and and offensive skill set.<\/p>\n

Filson will report directly to General Manager Bob Tory and will play a key role in player evaluation, scouting, roster planning and hockey operations strategy.<\/p>\n

          Filson joins the Americans following three seasons as a Western Regional Scout with the National Hockey League\u2019s Chicago Blackhawks, where he continued to evaluate talent across Western Canada and the Western Hockey League. His recent work with Chicago kept him closely connected to the WHL landscape, its players, coaches and competitive trends, giving him current insight into the league as he steps into his new role with Tri-City.<\/p>\n

          \u201cI am extremely grateful to Bob Tory and the Tri-City Americans organization for this opportunity,\u201d Filson said. \u201cThis is a proud franchise with a strong history in the Western Hockey League, and I am excited to contribute to the next chapter.           Prior to joining the Blackhawks, Filson spent more than a decade in the scouting department with the Seattle Thunderbirds. He began as a scout before advancing to Director of Player Personnel, helping shape one of the WHL\u2019s most successful programs. During his tenure in Seattle, Filson was integrally involved in identifying and developing the core roster pieces that powered the Thunderbirds to WHL championships in both 2017 and 2023.<\/p>\n

          \u201cCal has earned an outstanding reputation through the quality of his work, his eye for talent and his ability to understand what winning teams are built on,\u201d said Americans General Manager Bob Tory. \u201cHe was part of putting together championship-caliber rosters in Seattle not once, but twice, and that kind of experience is invaluable.           Filson\u2019s role with the Thunderbirds included years of evaluating prospects throughout Western Canada and the United States, contributing to draft preparation and helping build depth through scouting, recruitment and long-term player projection. Seattle\u2019s 2017 championship marked the first WHL title in franchise history, while the 2023 championship reinforced the organization\u2019s sustained ability to identify, acquire and develop elite junior talent.<\/p>\n

          \u201cWhat stands out about Cal is that his success has never been accidental,\u201d Tory said. \u201cHe has consistently demonstrated patience, preparation and conviction in his evaluations. His time with the Blackhawks has only expanded that perspective, and because he has remained so familiar with the Western Hockey League, we believe he is ready to make an immediate impact in Tri-City.\u201d<\/p>\n

          Filson\u2019s background also includes scouting experience in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League before his move to the WHL. A native of Lafleche, Saskatchewan, he has built his career around detailed player evaluation, strong relationships and a deep understanding of junior hockey development pathways.<\/p>\n
