It’s not often that a 16-year-old plays on a top line in the Western Hockey League.
Then again, it’s not often a 16-year-old like Connor Rankin comes along, either.
Rankin has looked nothing like a player who just turned 16 on Tuesday in his rookie season for the Tri-City Americans. His seventh goal of the season, off a nifty pass from Brendan Shinnimin late in the second period, proved to be the game-winner as the Americans won their fourth straight Wednesday night, beating Medicine Hat 4-1 at Toyota Center.
Americans brass may be loath to designate a No. 1 line, but any grouping that includes Rankin, Shinnimin and Adam Hughesman (who got the second assist on Rankin’s goal to give him a team-high 19 to go with 14 goals) certainly would qualify.
