The Americans and Silvertips will matchup today for the third time this season. Tri-City has won both previous meetings, including a 5-4 victory on Sunday at the Toyota Center.
The Americans picked up a 5-4 victory over Everett at the Toyota Center Sunday night, thanks in large part to an own goal by Everett in the final minutes of regulation. Drew Freer opened scoring in the first period, his first goal since returning from a long-term upper-body injury. Brandon Whynott led the Americans with two goals; his first multi-goal game in the WHL. Jake Gudelj added the game-tying goal for Tri-City and with an assist on Whynott’s first goal. All six of Gudelj’s points this season have came in pairs. Tri-City was 2/5 on the power play; their second straight game with multiple power play goals. Scoring was back-and-forth all night but a late own-goal by Everett, credited to Parker Bell, was the difference that gave Tri-City the 5-4 victory. Lukas Matecha played his 8th straight game and turned aside 36/40 shots faced.
Jake Gudelj has been exceptional against Everett for the Americans: four of his six points have came against the Silvertips. After an impressive two-goal game on Sunday, Brandon Whynott leads the head-to-head series in goals scored with three.
Everett comes into tonight’s game having lost their last two. The Americans will look to earn a season-high three straight wins with a victory tonight.
