Mason Mykichuk signs with Tri-City
Kennewick, WA – Tri-City Americans general manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has signed 2008-born forward Mason Mykichuk to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. He was drafted 56th overall in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
“Mason is a hard-working, skilled forward. He plays the game with passion and exudes leadership,” stated Tory.
Mykichuk, from East St. Paul, Manitoba, had a stellar 2022-23 season with the U15 Winnipeg Thrashers by recording 77 points (41-36-77) in just 32 games. His 41 goals were tied for sixth in the Winnipeg U15 AAA league while his 77 points put him alone in sixth place in league scoring.
The 5-foot-11 forward’s production took another step in the playoffs as he racked up 21 points (13-8-21) in just seven post season games. He was named the WAAA U15 Forward of the Year.
“Mason is an elite, power forward with a pro caliber shot,” said assistant general manager Roy Stasiuk. “He plays a complete two-way game and takes as much pride in his defensive responsibilities as he does his offensive numbers.”
Mykichuk is the fourth member of the Americans 2023 draft class to sign with the team, joining Cruz Pavao (13th overall), Carter Kingerski (35th overall) and Jesse McKinnon (55th overall). The Americans have now signed their top four selections from the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
He will compete for Team Manitoba at the WHL Cup alongside fellow Americans prospect Carter Kingerski. The annual event is scheduled to take place in Red Deer, Alta. on October 17-22.
