Americans announce 2023-24 regular season schedule
Kennewick, WA – The Tri-City Americans, in conjunction with the Western Hockey League, have announced their full 68-game schedule for the 2023-24 season today.
The Americans regular season begins on the road with their first three games of the year away from the Toyota Center. The team will travel up to Prince George for a pair of games against the Cougars September 22 and 23 to begin the season before heading to Spokane on Saturday, September 30.
As announced yesterday, the Americans will play their first home game on Saturday, October 7 when they welcome the Everett Silvertips. It will be the first time since the 2017-18 season that the Americans host the Silvertips in their home opener.
Twenty-four of the Americans 34 home games in 2023-24 fall on Friday’s or Saturday’s. The other 10 games are split up between Sundays (2), Tuesdays (4) and Wednesdays (4). That includes the annual New Year’s Eve game against the Spokane Chiefs, with a 6:05 puck drop on Sunday, December 31.
The Americans will play 21 games each on Fridays and Saturdays in 2023-24, by far the busiest days on the schedule.
The Spokane Chiefs are the team the Americans will see the most in 2023-24 with 10 games against their long-standing rivals. With the arrival of the Wenatchee Wild, the Americans schedule against U.S. Division opponents has been modified for this upcoming season. Along with their 10 games against Spokane, Tri-City will play Wenatchee eight times and see Everett, Portland and Seattle six times each.
The Americans’ longest home stand of the season comes November 1 to 11 with five straight games at the Toyota Center. They also have a stretch of six out of seven games at home from October 7 through 22. November features plenty of hockey at the Toyota Center with nine of Tri-City’s 11 games during the month coming on home ice.
Central Division Road Trip
For the first time since 2019-20 the Americans will travel through the Central Division. After breaking up the trip into two smaller ones that season, they will make their way through the entire division in one trip for the first time since 2016-17.
The gauntlet begins Friday, January 5 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes and concludes Sunday, January 14 against the Calgary Hitmen. The Americans will also make stops in Medicine Hat (January 6), Swift Current (January 9), Edmonton (January 11) and Red Deer (January 12).
The WHL announced on June 16 that the Winnipeg ICE franchise had been purchased and relocated to Wenatchee for the 2023-24 season. Americans fans will have their first opportunity to see the Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday, October 18 when the two teams meet for the first time. Tri-City will travel to the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee for their first regular season meeting on Wednesday, November 15.
The Americans and Wild will meet eight times throughout the 2023-24 season, with the Wild also visiting the Toyota Center on November 17, December 9 and March 8.
The Americans will welcome East Division opponents to the Toyota Center in 2023-24, the first visit to Kennewick for the East Division since 2019-20. The Brandon Wheat Kings will be the first East Division club to make their way to the U.S. Division on October 13. Other dates include November 11 (Prince Albert Raiders), November 28 (Saskatoon Blades), February 23 (Moose Jaw Warriors) and February 24 (Regina Pats).
