Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase: Oshawa at Kingston
OHL East Division action comes to Sportsnet as the CHL Saturday Showcase features the Oshawa Generals and Kingston Frontenacs at 3:30pm ET/12:30pm PT.
The Generals head east on the 401 following a 5-3 win over the Flint Firebirds at home on Friday. Oshawa enters play having won seven of their last 10, benefitting from recent contributions from overage forward Hayden McCool who has 10 points in that span.
Oshawa boasts a pair of closely watched 2018 NHL Draft prospects in ‘A’ rated winger Serron Noel and creative playmaker Allan McShane down the middle.
Overage veteran Kenny Huether leads the team in goals with 18 while netminder Kyle Keyser has been solid since returning from injury in early December, going 7-2-0-1 with a 2.78 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage over 11 games.
The host Kingston Frontenacs have recently added an influx of talent to their lineup as a result of trades with the Windsor Spitfires and London Knights. Fronts general manager Darren Keily acquired former Mastercard Memorial Cup champions Sean Day, Gabriel Vilardi, Cliff Pu and Max Jones, inserting them into a lineup with talented scorer Jason Robertson, a second round pick of the Dallas Stars.
Robertson leads Frontenacs scoring this season with 25 goals, 30 assists and 55 points in 40 games. He’s joined by Finnish playmaker Linus Nyman who has 19 goals, 31 assists and 50 points to his credit over 40 games.
Like the Generals’ Keyser, the Frontenacs also boast strong goaltending with Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jeremy Helvig featuring a 2.65 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and 16-10-3-3 record of 32 games.
Second half battles between these two clubs will be intense as they meet for just the second of eight encounters this season before a national audience.
Catch all of Saturday’s action with hosts RJ Broadhead and Sam Cosentino coast-to-coast on Sportsnet.
