Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase: Guelph at Owen Sound
The Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase touches down in Owen Sound for a matinee matchup between the host Attack and the division rival Guelph Storm.
Owen Sound has turned things around of late, winning eight of 10 entering action as they sit fifth in the Western Conference with a 32-21-2-5 record.
The Attack’s latest win came in a 4-0 Thursday night road blanking of the Erie Otters that saw goaltender Olivier Lafreniere earn his first OHL shutout. Vancouver Canucks prospect Jonah Gadjovich also scored his fifth goal in as many games as Owen Sound kept the heat on the fourth place London Knights who currently hold home ice advantage in a potential first round series.
Vegas Golden Knights prospect Nick Suzuki leads the Bears in scoring for the second straight season, producing 33 goals, 53 assists and 86 points in 56 contests. Veteran winger Kevin Hancock has also been hot of late, registering six goals, eight assists and 14 points over his last seven games.
The visiting Guelph Storm are looking to put a halt to an eight-game losing skid that has seen them slide down the Western Conference standings.
The Storm fell 6-5 at the hands of the Flint Firebirds on home ice Friday, earning a single point in the overtime loss as Philadelphia Flyers prospect Isaac Ratcliffe netted a hat-trick. The 27-25-4-4 Storm sit tied for sixth in the conference with the Saginaw Spirit and enter action nine points back of the fifth place Attack.
Guelph won the first four consecutive meetings of the season against Owen Sound before the Attack responded with three straight wins of their own, the latest coming by a score of 7-6 in overtime on February 23rd.
The season series wraps up on Sportsnet Saturday afternoon as RJ Broadhead and Sam Cosentino provide the call from coast-to-coast starting at 2:00pm ET/11:00am PT.
