Former Steelheads captain Callaghan part of a strong Canada squad at FISU Winter World University Games
Former Brampton Steelheads captain Charlie Callaghan is part of a strong Canada squad at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy.
In his second year at St. FX, Callaghan has played at a point-per-game pace through 18 contests. Last year, the 22-year-old defenceman was named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team.
“We’re still very talented hockey players,” Callaghan said. “There is a future pro career available after U SPORTS. It’s fast, it’s physical. There’s still a lot of skill. You still have NHL draft picks playing U SPORTS.
“It’s very underrated hockey.”
Callaghan spent four years with the Steelheads from 2018-23 where he played 208 games and had 55 points (16 goals).
Hockey at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games takes place from Jan. 11-22. The full schedule and results can be found here.
