Coast to Coast with Ryan Lin – CHL USA Prospects Challenge
The Vancouver Giants’ Ryan Lin is going to the CHL USA Prospects Game.
The defenceman was one of three players – alongside Niagara’s Ryan Roobroeck and Blainville-Boisbriand’s Xavier Villeneuve – named to the Team CHL roster earlier this week.
“It’s really cool to be the first player named from the Western League,” Lin said. “We have a talented group of draft eligibles and there’s a lot of guys it could have been but I am happy it was me.”
Lin’s credentials are strong; he won a gold medal at the 2025 U18 World Championships with Canada as an underager and earlier this summer claimed bronze at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He also led Canada to gold at the 2024 Hockey U17 World Challenge.
With the Giants last season, Lin had 53 points in 60 games to be named to the CHL’s All-Rookie Team while he led all WHL rookie with 48 assists. His point total was the seventh most among U17 defencemen across the CHL since 1990 and he became just the second WHL rookie blueliner aged 16 or younger to surpass 50 points in a season since Kamloops Blazers alumnus Scott Niedermayer in 1989-90.
He started his 2025-26 campaign strongly as he scored in Vancouver’s season opener last Friday.
Game 1 of the 2025 CHL USA Prospects Challenge will take place in Calgary on Nov. 25 with Game 2 scheduled a day later in Lethbridge.
