Blades alumnus Shugrue ends longest game in U SPORTS history in fifth overtime
Former Saskatoon Blades defenceman Spencer Shugrue wrote his name into U SPORTS history Thursday night.
The 21-year-old scored the game-winner in the fifth overtime period as TMU (Toronto Metropolitan University) beat MRU (Mount Royal University) 5-4 in the opening game of the 2025 University Cup. In all, the game took 143 minutes, 33 seconds.
From 2019-24, Shugrue played 131 games for the Blades. In his first season with the Bold, he had five points (three goals) in 26 games.
