Appearance at CHL USA Prospects Challenge next on Schaefer’s long list of accolades
At 17 years old, there isn’t much the Erie Otters’ Matthew Schaefer hasn’t done.
However, his next challenge is on the horizon. A three-time gold medallist with Canada internationally, Schaefer is set to suit up at this week’s CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota.
“You get the best US guys in the Draft and the best Canadian guys going at each other so I feel it’s going to be good and a bit of a rivalry,” Schaefer said.
The Stoney Creek, ON., native – who is in serious consideration to be a Top 3 selection at the 2025 NHL Draft – has 18 points in only 14 games this season. His six goals have already doubled his total from his rookie campaign a year ago.
Building off of one of hockey’s greatest rivalries between Canada and the United States, the CHL USA Prospects Challenge will see players from the CHL and NTDP’s U18 team compete before hundreds of NHL scouts and thousands of fans in an effort to improve their draft stock ahead of next year’s NHL Draft.
The first game will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Canada Life Place in London, Ont., while the second contest will be held the following night on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, Ont.
Team CHL’s roster features 22 of the league’s premier NHL Draft prospects and is highlighted by 14 Grade ‘A’ ranked players that indicates a likely first round pick in 2025.
