Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Brandon Hynes of the Victoriaville Tigres is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 3. In two games Hynes recorded six points including five goals and one assist.
On Saturday night against the Gatineau Olympiques, Hynes assisted on the Tigres first goal before tying the game 2-2 midway through the second period to force overtime. He would later net the game-winner 1:33 into the extra frame for the 3-2 overtime win. Hynes finished the week Sunday with a hat-trick performance as second star despite a 7-4 loss to the Montreal Juniors.
Hynes, an 18-year-old from Norris Point, Newfoundland, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Tigres. Through six games this season he has scored eight goals and one assist following a 2009-10 campaign where he recorded 75 points in 68 games.
Honourable mention this week goes to a pair of Toronto Maple Leafs prospects including Brad Ross of the Portland Winterhawks and Greg McKegg of the Erie Otters. Ross, selected 43rd overall by the Leafs in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, scored five goals and one assist for six points in four games this week. McKegg, selected 62nd overall in 2010, had seven points in three games with three goals and four assists.
