Olympiques’ Tye McGinn Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Tye McGinn of the Gatineau Olympiques is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 13. McGinn produced seven points in two games including five goals and two assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.
McGinn’s week was highlighted by a five-point performance with four goals in an 8-5 win over the Lewiston MAINEiacs on Sunday. He was named the game’s first star netting three straight goals including the game-winner in a span of 2:37 to start the third period to lift the Olympiques’ to the win and to give him 30 goals in a season for the first time in his career. McGinn also scored a goal and an assist on Friday night as part of a 6-3 win over the MAINEiacs.
McGinn, a 20-year-old from Fergus, ON, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Olympiques. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers and has a career-high 63 points in 41 games so far this season.
2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Red Deer Rebels was also considered for the award after scoring five goals and seven assists for 12 points in four games. New York Rangers prospect Christian Thomas of the Oshawa Generals led the OHL with nine points in three games scoring six goals including his 50th of the year while adding three assists.
