Wild Card Play-In Matchups lined up for Tuesday
Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League in association with the Greater Toronto Hockey League today announced the five Wild Card play-in matchups which will determine the final five entries for the 2022 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament Powered by Under Armour.
All matchups were randomly drawn on Monday night and streamed live on the GTHL’s Twitch account.
2022 OHL Cup Wild Card Play-In Schedule:
Tuesday March 29, 2022
WC 1, 5:45pm – Ajax-Pickering Raiders vs. Mississauga Senators (Rink 1)
WC 2, 7:00pm – North York Rangers vs. Clarington Toros (Rink 2)
WC 3, 7:30pm – Windsor Jr. Spitfires vs. Waterloo Wolves (Rink 1)
WC 4, 8:45pm – Vaughan Kings vs. Halton Hurricanes (Rink 2)
WC 5, 9:15pm – Toronto Red Wings vs. Markham Waxers (Rink 1)
Announced on Sunday night, the GTHL’s Mississauga Senators and North York Rangers, OMHA’s Markham Waxers and Ajax-Pickering Raiders, as well as the ALLIANCE’s Waterloo Wolves earned their spots by way of qualification.
The GTHL’s Toronto Red Wings and Vaughan Kings, OMHA’s Clarington Toros and Halton Hurricanes and ALLIANCE’s Windsor Jr. Spitfires were granted opportunities by way of an OHL Cup Selection Committee based on their performance throughout the 2021-22 season.
The five winners of the Wild Card play-in games will join 15 other clubs who earned their qualification through league play and regional representation. Final divisional alignment and 40-game round robin tournament schedule will be confirmed ahead of tournament action on Wednesday.
