Whitby overcomes Central Ontario for final tournament spot
The Whitby Wildcats will return to the OHL Cup for the first time since 2019 following a 3-1 Wild Card Play-In victory over their OMHA ETA opponents the Central Ontario Wolves.
The Wildcats got off to a strong first period start as Carson Shewchuk opened the scoring before Ethan Proctor and Evan Elliot added two more tallies to the scoresheet. Gabe Donohue remained reliable between the pipes, stopping 18 of the 19 shots that came his way.
Proctor talked about earning a spot in the tournament saying, “I’m looking forward to playing some of the top teams in the province. It’s our chance to make it to the finals and win the tournament.”
Proctor received BARDOWN Player of the Game honours for the Wildcats while Francis Parish scored Central Ontario’s lone goal to earn the honours for the Wolves.
With the win, Whitby will join the Subban Division, which features the Mississauga Senators, Southern Tier Admirals, London Jr. Knights and the Barrie Jr. Colts.
